Small-town Living: All About The City of Bryant

Bryant blends the progressiveness of one of the fastest-growing areas in the state with the charm of small-town living.
"We have the closeness of neighbors and a commitment to keep that âfeelâ but are open-minded about welcoming new people," said Rae Ann Fields, director of the Bryant Area Chamber of Commerce. Bryantâs population, about 15,000, shows nearly a 50 percent growth rate since the last census count in 2000.
Schools, Homes
Just six miles south of the southern Little Rock city limit, Bryantâs great schools, high-achieving sports program and low crime rates bring in the people. The Bryant school district offers seven elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. New homes in the area cost about $130,000 to $250,000, even up $500,000.
An exciting development, Newtown Bryant, a Jones Custom Developments and Duany Plater-Zyberk & Co. project, is about to bring an innovative and world-class neighborhood to the area.
"This development will encompass features that residents could only once just imagine, creating not just new homes but whole new lifestyles that bring together virtually every socio-economic culture among us," developer Rick Meyer said.
Among a new network of single-family homes, condos, row-houses, cottages, custom homes, live-work units, townhouses, artistsâ lofts and senior courtyard homes, residents will find a defined town square and, hopefully, new city hall nestled among tree-shaded streets and bike paths, with an entertainment and dining district within walking distance. Residents will find business districts, parks, churches and schools just five minutes from their home.
Retail, Family Festivals
Fields said such developments as planned Midtown Bryant are a perfect fit for the community. The planned community incorporates all amenities within easy walking distance from churches, parks and civic places.
"That kind of easy, friendly, healthy, family living is what we are all about," Fields said.
Family living is easy in Bryant. The city owns 10 parks that have a combined 250 acres. The parks offer a multitude of activities. Mills Park is the site of the annual fall festival, which is held each September. The festival brings musical guests, live entertainment and local food vendors together in a daylong celebration.
Mills Park is also home to Bryantâs Family Fest, held annually on Independence Day. Some favorite food vendors include Luigiâs Pizza and Pasta and Cakery Affairs.
