Kathryn Kennedy, M.D.

Gynecologic Surgical Oncologist, CARTI
Moved from: Massachusetts | Neighborhood: Hillcrest

Originating from Massachusetts, Dr. Kathryn Kennedy embarked on her medical journey at Chan Medical School in Worcester. As a student, she had the chance to shadow a gynecologic oncologist. Witnessing the doctor’s adeptness in delivering a cancer diagnosis and crafting a surgical plan for a patient and their family left a profound impression on Kathryn. This experience became a defining moment, affirming her dedication to specializing in this field.

"I’ve felt incredibly welcomed by the people of Little Rock and from across the state as I’ve traveled to CARTI’s treatment locations. The warmth and kindness of Arkansans have blown me away, and I feel lucky to be here."

“She navigated the tough conversation in such a reassuring and supportive manner. I remember thinking, ‘I can’t believe I have the privilege of being here as a student and witnessing such a big moment between a patient and her doctor.’ Then, I realized I could be in that same role one day,” Kennedy said. “[I had] found my path, and I love that years later, I have the skills and knowledge to care for patients and guide them through a sensitive time in their lives.”

Kennedy completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Tulane University in Louisiana, and she knew she wanted to return to the South after finishing her gynecologic oncology fellowship in New York. When she discovered CARTI, she was impressed with its people, mission and community and knew it was the right place to further her medical career. CARTI expanded its care offerings for women facing gynecologic cancers by bringing Kathryn and her expertise on board.

Kennedy was surprised and thrilled by CARTI’s ability to pitch in and ensure the best possible outcomes for patients. Whether it’s helping coordinate care or providing continued access to in-demand chemotherapy drugs, CARTI goes above and beyond to provide quality health care.

“I’m continually impressed by the willingness of this community to do whatever it takes to get the patients what they need, including [when] I brought this new specialty of gynecologic oncology to CARTI,” Kathryn said. “I admire the medical personnel I’ve seen—at every level and in every capacity—who advocate for my patients.”

Kennedy, who resides in the historic Hillcrest neighborhood, fell in love with the people of Little Rock—her coworkers, patients, neighbors, gym owners and small business owners, all of whom she said make living in Central Arkansas so great.

In her free time, Kennedy enjoys getting involved in the community. She likes to sample new menus at local restaurants and attend charity events, such as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s The Finest Gala and the Arkansas Cancer Coalition’s Monster Bash. On Saturday mornings, Kathryn and her husband often take long walks with their dog in the beautiful Hillcrest neighborhood and try the local coffee shops.

“I’ve felt incredibly welcomed by the people of Little Rock and from across the state as I’ve traveled to CARTI’s treatment locations,” Kathryn said. “The warmth and kindness of Arkansans have blown me away, and I feel lucky to be here.”
