Home to many of the state’s CEOs and descendants of the city’s first business leaders, The Heights can be a city unto itself. Residents confess they rarely need to leave the neighborhood – everything they need is within walking distance: chic boutiques, restaurants, and book and toy stores.

LIVE
The Heights’ quiet streets reveal quaint Georgian and Tudor bungalows, wooded and manicured lawns, and friendly neighbors ready with a smile. Generally, the homes here are larger and more expensive than in nearby Hillcrest. Prices range from $200,000 to $2 million. While some of the homes built during the 1920s and 1930s are being torn down and replaced with “McMansions,” the neighborhood’s character and ambiance remain. Some streets, such as Edgehill Road, overlook the Arkansas River, offering incredible views of the city from equally incredible houses.

WORK
Most residents don’t work within the neighborhood. The mom-and-pop shops, eateries, eye doctors, dry cleaners, grocers and banks nearby tend to rely on a younger work force to serve the affluent clientele. However, a headquarters for Iberia Bank and several small realty and insurance agencies employ some corporate types on Cantrell hill. What The Heights lacks in variety of employment opportunities, however, it makes up in convenience. Its central location – you’re only five minutes from almost everywhere – will keep your drive time commutes to a minimum.

PLAY
You’ll find that residents love the social interaction that comes with jogging the quiet streets or window shopping along Kavanaugh Boulevard. Locals are lured out for ice cream treats, wine tasting within walking distance and fresh pizza at favorite neighborhood establishments. On the third Thursday of every month, the neighborhood retailers host Happy Hour in the Heights from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and a trolley shuttles shoppers around.

EXPERIENCE
Despite its rich roots and swanky country club, The Heights isn’t considered a stuffy neighborhood. Even the firemen come out to say “Hello” when you go by their station on Kavanaugh Boulevard. The local grocery store is indicative of the charm, too. After choosing from the wide range of products, Hestand’s clerks will still carry your groceries to the car. This hospitality is one of the incentives to homebuyers and renters, although rental properties are hard to come by in this highly regarded and sought-after community.

Exclusive Club Built in 1902, The Country Club of Little Rock is the oldest country club west of the Mississippi River. The members are among the most powerful and wealthiest in the state.
