Even as young as 10, Ken Kimberling was already demonstrating his keenness for interior design. Left alone in his grandmother’s house for an afternoon, Ken impulsively rearranged her living and dining rooms – from the furniture placement to the pictures on the wall. And a few years later, he was caught painting his room a lush eggplant color. However brilliant these design tendencies were, his parents promptly grounded him.

Eventually though, his innate talent led to work designing corporate window displays and to a job with a Little Rock design firm in the mid-‘90s, before he branched out on his own – launching Kimberling Interiors – in 1998. Now, after more than 12 years, Ken provides a full range of impeccable design services for small to large scale new homes, remodels and updates.

Style Swatches

Favorite project: It’s most always the last one completed, until the next one is done. However, the Jungmeyer home on Silverwood Trail in North Little Rock stands out. It’s conservative and traditional, while warmly inviting. From the cut stone and dryvit façade to the matching drapery lining and window casements – every detail is quietly addressed.

Flip-side: Hypnotherapist Penny Rea’s office is a more contemporary mixture of texture, tranquility and whimsy. The mink and pavé pillow, the ethnic art and the copper wall fountain all combine to create a meditative atmosphere that creates a remarkable first impression.

Passion: Blending a client’s home, existing possessions and long-terms goals into a cohesive design that reflects their personal style with a current, cutting edge flare.

Favorite quote: “A problem never comes to you without a gift in its hands.”

Favorite design challenge: Blending existing, lumbering, non-negotiable requirements with new elements for an aesthetically pleasing result. Taking “what is” often becomes far more challenging than beginning with a blank slate.

Design motto: All the people who made up the rules are dead.

Insider design tip: Fixed background color correction (walls, trim and ceilings) is the most affordable, high-impact alteration available to the masses.
