Outdoor Enthusiast: Blake Jackson

Blake Jackson
Sailing enthusiast
Preferring walking to driving, Blake Jackson elected to live downtown near his job and the River Market. But the 27-year-old architect doesn’t always keep his feet on the pavement – he spends his free time on a sailboat. A Little Rock native, Jackson spent summers learning the ropes and racing at the Grande Maumelle Sailing Club on Lake Maumelle.
What’s lake sailing in Arkansas like? It’s a lot of fun and, in some respects, more challenging than ocean racing because the wind is always shifting directions.
Describe the Grande Maumelle Sailing Club’s vibe. The club’s members have always wanted to keep it a racing club and not a country club, which means it’s laid back off the water, but serious when it comes to competing.
Any other recreation recommendations? Pinnacle Mountain is a good quick trip; and boating up the Arkansas River and hanging out on the sand bars is great too, and it really feels like a different place.
