Dr. Curtis Lowery
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences: Hospital Director of Obstetrics & Gynecology

After graduating from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, Dr. Curtis Lowery came to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, where he’s been for the past 20 years. Since 2008, he’s served as the chair of the department. In addition to many other designations, the state’s only teaching hospital also has its only Maternal-Fetal Medicine Program, thanks to its board certified high-risk obstetricians.

What do you think UAMS brings to the central Arkansas community? We have a large Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; it’s the largest unit in our hospital. It is one of the few units in America where mothers can stay with their baby in individual rooms, as opposed to where all of the babies are in one large room. Our telemedicine and ANGEL programs are also revolutionary on the national scene. Our Myeloma Institute for Research & Therapy is an international leader in the treatment and study of the cancer and another part of the reason UAMS gets patients from more than 50 foreign countries.
